Harriet Spicer

As a business coach and mentor I work with individuals, groups and organisations to support thoughtful, productive strategies that bring clarity and satisfaction to the individuals involved and success for both them and the organisations in which they work.  I draw on my career, which has spanned the private, public and voluntary sector, my extensive training as a coach and counsellor, and my family life in all I do.

I am a Council member at the London School of Economics, and work as a mentor for Uprisers, a programme run by the Young Foundation.

I was a lay member of the first Judicial Appointments Commissioners, was Chair and Commissioner of the first National Lottery Commission and served on the Audit & Risk Committee of both bodies.

In my initial career I was a publisher.  I was a founder member of the publishing company Virago Press, working there for over twenty years as Managing Director for much of that time.  Managing the company as an independent business, through group ownership and a management buy out gave me wide experience in finance and strategy as well as publishing.

After leaving Virago, I was executive Chair of The Friendly Almshouses, a charity providing sheltered accommodation in Brixton, and began training in counselling, psychotherapy and coaching/work supervision at Spectrum, the centre for humanistic psychotherapy.

Enthusiasm and an active concern for people and their well-being inform all my work.  I love to get to the heart of the matter, whether by looking at governance, strategy, process, or the personal behaviours and relationships that inform all of these.

Harriet Spicer brings an incisive intelligence to each coaching conversation. This was coupled with a willingness, when relevant, to offer the perspective of her own experience as a one time Managing Director and from other senior roles she has held. She consistently works to professional standards of the highest order. All of these characteristics meant that over the time we worked together I anticipated our meetings with eagerness as an opportunity to formulate often difficult decisions. right-quote
